When watching this movie, I was only a little bit familiar with the Hetalia series. I was a little confused by the opening scene, but was soon surprised by fresh humor that kept me laughing for the entire movie. References to other anime and pop culture are made, contributing to the laughs. The main story is not the only story featured; shorts are also shown, brief comical asides that will make the viewer chuckle. Solid voice acting and an off-the-wall but engaging story keep the viewer's interest alive. Anyone--otaku or no--will appreciate this unique and well-done animated movie.
